The governance network for international schools
Russell Speirs explains why the time has come for a new kind of organisation to support international school boards.
The need
As a result of our advisory work with international schools and of extensive research undertaken in 2016 and 2023, the team at RSAcademics have come to four conclusions about international governance.
- Good governance is necessary for international schools to thrive
- Too many international schools fall short of their potential because of poor governance
- The governance of an international school is a complex and demanding responsibility
- There is nowhere for international school Boards to access affordable and relevant support and to meet with peers
Our response
Presented with this challenge, RSAcademics has launched iGNIS – the Governance Network for International Schools in September 2024. iGNIS is the first membership network specifically for people who carry out governance functions in international schools.
iGNIS is designed to allow members to share good practice, discuss practical solutions and obtain support and reassurance. Our new platform brings access to on-demand and live training, interviews with international school Board members, expert presentations, live Q&A and discussion threads and a confidential helpline
Your response
The reaction to iGNIS has been incredibly positive. In fact, it’s hard to think of someone who hasn’t said “At last!” or “Finally!” or thanked us for “filling a gap”. What people seem to like is that we are not preaching one approach to governance or coming at it from a national perspective. iGNIS is designed to respect and reflect the diverse forms of governance which exist among international schools. We aim to focus on the outcomes and impact, not the means of getting there.
How your school can join
Annual membership of iGNIS is £1,000 GBP, which provides access for 10 users. Schools who are members of COBIS, BSME, ECIS or FOBISIA are eligible for discounted membership.
