Teachers Share the Things They’ve Said at Least 100 Times

by

In many classrooms, the 100th day of school has become a fun celebration of both the number 100 and the learning the class has done so far this school year. But just for fun, Twitter user Lindsay Arnold asked teachers to share the things they’ve said at least 100 times, in honor of the 100th day.

The answers were so relatable. (Maybe a little too relatable.)

“Push your chair in.”

Often followed by, “All the way in.”

“Stop touching each other.”

To kindergartners or middle school boys? Hard to say.

“No, I don’t have a Chromebook charger—see if one of your classmates does.”

Pretty sure I’ve said this in my sleep before.

“OK, seriously?”

Teacher speak for “You’ve pushed it too far.”

“It’s on the board.”

Where it always is!

“Phones and earbuds away, please.”

Why do we even bother? 😩

“Put your chair down.”

Again: Kindergartners or middle schoolers?

“What have you tried so far?”

Because half of teaching is troubleshooting.

“What can you do to solve that problem?”

See also: learned helplessness.

“Thank you for letting me know.”

A favorite teacher response for the comment we can’t do anything about (e.g., “My foot feels weird.” “I don’t have a pencil.” “This isn’t fun.”)

We all need a reminder every once in a while. Multiply that by a class of 25 to 40, and you’re bound to hear familiar refrains on the classroom soundtrack.

Clearly, teachers have mastered the art of repetition.
